What is Exploring?
Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and/or may be 13 years of age, but have not yet reached their 21st birthday. |
Post 1696
The Prince George's County, Office of the Sheriff Explorer Post 1696 was formed in September 2003 after the election of former Sheriff Michael A. Jackson. Lieutenant Yakeisha Hines, Daryl Austin, and Tanisha Carr volunteered to take charge of the post, and have been dedicated ever since. Starting with only 7 explorers, post 1696 has gained over 30 young men and women who dedicate their time and effort into serving Prince George's County.
Currently Post 1696 has gained National recognition numerous times. In July 2006 while competing in the National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference (NLEEC), in Flagstaff, AZ 3rd place in Drill and Ceremony and Basketball were achieved. During July 2008, NLEEC in Fort Collins, CO, 1st Place in Drill and Ceremony was won. July 2010, NLEEC in Atlanta, GA 1st Place in Drill and Ceremony, and Best Dress were brought home. More recently in July 2014 NLEEC in Indianapolis, IN, 1st place Burglary in Progress, 2nd place Basketball and 3rd place Traffic Stop awards were won.

It is our missions to serve others by helping to instill core values in young people and in other ways prepare them to make ethical choices throughout their lives so they can achieve their full potential.
Objective:
To bring young adults into Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice as a career. To provide guidance and positive resources that young adults can use to enhance and further their goals.

Pride- Our actions will display the satisfaction of achieving our goals of public service and the association of the Office of the Sheriff.
Honor- We strive to exemplify the ultimate standard in ethical and moral conduct. Honor is many things; honor requires many things. We are accountable for our own actions and holding others accountable for theirs.
Integrity- We are responsible for our conduct, both professionally and personally. We are honest, fair and strong in character. We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of ethical conduct and strive to be role models for others.
